Someone needs to stand up and let this community know that everyone is a child of God and everyone has the ability to succeed.Jodi Mosconahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11136281830832399597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6520714157280973623.post-89483242644139242272008-06-30T17:04:00.000-07:002008-06-30T17:04:00.000-07:00You hit the nail on the head. The last time we as African-Americans blindly rallied behind someone just because they were black, we ended up with Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court.

He's thrown the black church under the bus. There's was certainly some grandstanding by Rev Wright, but why didn't Obama stand up and say, "What Rev. Wright says is consistent with what black ministers have said for years. I will be a president where such frustrations are heard." Instead he called Wright ignorant and divisive.

He has slighted the black community on multiple occasions, the most telling of which was skipping out on the 40th anniversary celebration of Martin Luther King's death in Memphis, a majority black city, to speak at a majority white high school in Indiana (the “prior obligation” he cited to the media as his reason for not attending).

Defenders have said time and time again that he's doing what he needs to do to get elected. In other words, ignoring black issues is necessary to get elected. So, what then will he do for the next 4 years as he spends his first 4 years seeking reelection to the presidency? Answer: He will once again ignore the black community that backs him so devoutly. And after that? Perhaps he will be so concerned about his legacy (he's made it clear that he doesn't want to be seen as the "black president") that even then he will keep his distance from black America. I have to say I wonder. We as a people loyally offer ourselves to this man, as if he’s God (have you heard the comments some of our friends and love ones make about him) when he has shown no loyalty to us.Harrelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03184764069699177310noreply@blogger.com
